Personality: "He is doing the impossible, that is why he is a hero." This was said about Sigmund but it is equally true about Capell. However Capell was not meant to be a hero, calling him a reluctant hero would be greatly underestimating the fact.

At the beginning of the game Capell is a travelling musician who would very much like to be left alone, he is kind but has no friends, a loner and one who would very much like to stay out of danger and trouble.

From the outset though Capell is willing to help others, his belief that people should not be hurt, left to die or treated cruelly is greater than his belief that he shouldn't be hurt. He just would rather not be the one to have to save them, and is very vocal about this. When Sigmund tells him that all he has to do is be himself Capell answers that being himself might mean he runs away. Capell believes himself to be a coward and so that is how he portrays himself to the world.

However the world doesn't quite let him be, for the first half of his adventures he is dragged along. Choices are made for him (mostly by Aya) often against his will. He follows orders but often complains, or believes he is not capable. It is not until Sigmund's death that he finally makes a choice of his own, a choice that unlike what he has claimed to want to do all along (run away and hide) was detrimental to his own continued existence. The choice to become Sigmund so the world still had hope.

This growth continues, Capell doesn't become a hero overnight. This isn't helped by the fact the party he has inherited do not accept him. One leaves completely and others range from doubtful of his ability to outright disdainful. It takes breaking another chain to prove to most of them he is worthy. The main problem is that looking so much like Sigmund he gets compared to him a lot. Sigmund is the ultimate hero and Capell must live up to him.

The main opponent to Capell is Edward. Edward dislikes Capell from the moment he arrives, dislikes that Signmund likes him, is furious that Capell can cut chains and openly opposes the plan that Capell takes over from Sigmund. He goes so far to refuse to call Capell Sigmund, or Capell for that matter and just calls him imposter. However, though Capell is upset with this he goes out of his way to try and talk to Edward and find out exactly what the problem is.

It must be noted though that in developing Capell doesn't become Sigmund, he inherits his party and his goals but his style of leading is his own, his main motive is the same but he has his own reasons for doing things, he is his own person, and it shows in the way he acts with his friends, and how he deals with his enemies- his defiance of Veros, telling his party that if he is the leader they all need to learn how to run away. Throughout the game he also learns how to hold himself like a confident fighter, and how to talk to royalty and nobility and convince them of their mission.

Capell isn't the brightest (seriously the ten year olds in his party have better int stats than him!) A lot of this can be explained by the fact that as an Unblessed he probably never went to school. He is a very good composer though, as well as a flute player (just don't ask about the names of his songs). However there are points of history that Edward points out any child would know that pass Capell by completely, as well as basic facts about the world (how do oceans work???)

This, added to Capell's general attitude makes him come across like a child sometimes, probably why he gets on well with the child members of his party and he is often silly and immature. He grows up throughout the game though as he takes on more responsibility and his quest gets to him. Also he is absolutely awful with romance. Cringe-worthily terrible.

The fact that Capell is an Unblessed (someone born in a time of no moon and having no magic granting lunaglyph) is something that affects his personality. He knew nothing of his birth parents, as like most Unblessed children he was abandoned and the Unblessed parents who adopted him died when he was young. He spent his childhood disliked, being driven out of villages and never feeling at home. He admits to Aya that all his life he had wished for a lunaglyph, and at the beginning of the game is actively hiding his Unblessed status.

He gets angrier through the game at the lot Unblesseds have in life. However at the same time he becomes more confident in himself, he tells his party that he is Unblessed (whilst arguing with Edward) and they all continue to be his friends. Later he tells Michelle that they are lucky to have friends who really don't care where people come from, if they are Aristos or Meages, Unblessed or temporarily turn into monsters. As he gets angrier at the world at large and the existence of Lunaglyphs at all he becomes more grateful that his friends are different.

Capell spent his life a loner. By the end of the game he has a party of seventeen and every one of them stand up for him against Veros, in his final monologue he says that he feels he is blessed, with more friends than he could have ever dreamed of. Early on Sigmund told him that he could run, but when he found something worth fighting for he would stand, and be prepared to die for it. Saving the world, and saving his friends was his thing worth giving his life for.

Of course it isn't all uphill, there are times he wants to give up, times he questions his choices and times, notably after Faina and Leif's death that he is more interested in revenge than changing the world. He becomes angry and defiant to the point that he wants to wipe out all lunaglyphs. He decides it would be better if the whole world were unblessed. Even though he is aware that things such as healing are reliant on lunaglyphs. He believes the only way that the world could be equal is that no one has power. He becomes focused and angry, driven only by hatred and no longer caring about anything else. It is Aya who helps him through this, and helps him remember what is important.

When he learns the truth of who he is he is surprised. But, instead of being angry at his parents he accepts Sigmund as his father instantly (perhaps because he had already learned of Sigmund's history and the pain of the fall of Casandra.) He doesn't really think of himself any differently (or rather doesn't really have time to think about it), but he becomes even more determined to change everything.

So overall Capell is a cowardly kid who would rather be left alone who through a long and difficult journey, and a lot of heart break sacrifices himself for the good of the world and his friends.

Abilities: Using spell components Capell can infuse qualities into living beings. For example fire element, or increased speed. This is something only Unblessed can do, but it is the tiniest fraction compared to the power of lunaglyphs (which Capell doesn't have), so much that they can enchant without people even noticing.

He also has a magic flute, but the magic of that is part of the flute and not part of Capell, it has different songs with different abilities from making people fall asleep to revealing hidden doors and letting others see vermiforms.

Non magic wise Capell is a skilled swordsman and a talented musician. He learns quickly when it comes to fighting.
